About Brezel

Brezel is a digital first MGA based in Munich. Launched in 2024, it offers pet insurance. Brezel works with a new, highly successful digital European insurance company - Instinct. The project is a result of the collaboration between an insurer and a technology company. While technology inspires us, we had a very serious conversation about what truly motivates us and we realized that we would like to create a company with a cause and a moral compass. One that benefits society. Brezel enables customers to donate without it being out-of-pocket. Our prices are competitive. Your experience is superior. And everytime you pay a premium, 10% from it goes to a Non-Profit partner organization.

Which insurance policies does Brezel currently offer?

Brezel specializes in Pet Health and surgery Insurance. We currently offer Dog Health insurance, Dog Operation insurance, Cat Health insurance, and Cat Operation insurance. Our policies cover a wide range of veterinary services, ensuring that your pet loved ones receive the best possible medical attention when needed.
How do I know what my policy covers?

Your policy coverages and insured amounts are displayed during the policy issuance process in the section dedicated to coverage details. After the policy is issued, you can review this information at any time by logging into your online profile and opening the Policies tab. Once you open the policy, the coverage details will be displayed on the right side of the screen.
Can I change my chosen package after purchase?

You can always upgrade your cover. Log in to your online profile and open the Policies tab. Select the policy you want to update and click on the pencil icon. Make the desired coverage changes and select options that better suit your needs. After making your adjustments, click Continue to review the updates. The system will display the updated coverage details, including any changes to your premium and the date from which the new coverage will apply. Confirm your changes by clicking Continue again. The system will generate your updated policy, which will be available in your profile. In case you need further assistance, please send us an email to kunden@brezel.de, we would be happy to help.
Can I change my information and how?

  • Yes, you can change your information in your personal account. Login to your profile. To change your personal information, e.g. name, address, contact details, go to the tab Profile, make the necessary changes and click Save. If the information is visible on your policy/policies, the system will ask you if you would like an automated policy update. You can also change your Login credentials from the button on the bottom right in the Profile tab.
  • You can change your payment method. Go to the tab Policies and select the contract for which you would like to update your payment information. Click on the credit card icon on the top right. Once you have changed your payment method, click Save.
  • You can update your policy details, including payment frequency, from the Policy tab. Click on the pencil icon on the top right. Make the desired changes. If they influence the premium, the system will show the changed premium on the right hand-side. You will see an overview of the changes as a final step. When you finalize the process, the system issues a mid-term adjustment of your policy, which is immediately available in your profile in the tab Policy.
When does my coverage kick in?

You can select the start date of your policy in the policy-issuing process. The start date is set on the following day and can be manually changed to a date 3 months in the future. The start date of your policy is visible before you click on 'Issue contract' and on your policy.

Claims

How do I file a claim?

Log in to your online profile and go to the Claims tab. Select the option to file a new claim. Fill in the short claim form and add supporting documents like invoices or medical records. Send the claim notification from the button 'Submit'. After submission, you can monitor the status of your claim directly in the Claims tab. Any updates or requests for additional information will be communicated to you through your profile in this tab. You will be updated on changes to the claim status over email too.
What documents do I need to report a claim?

You can submit a claim notification before you have all documents. Just check the 'I will upload an invoice later' box.
How long does it take to process my claim?

We strive to make the claims process as quick and painless as possible. Please ensure that you provide all documents in good quality to help us process them smoothly. We will keep you up to date with the claim status and make sure to close it quickly.
How will I get paid for a claim?

When filing a claim, you can enter your bank account details in the designated field. If you do not provide this information during the claim registration process, you can share your bank account details later.
How fast will a claim be paid?

As soon as the claim is processed and closed successfully, the owed amount is transferred to your bank account and you are notified that the payment has been made.

Customer Account

How can I register and log in to my customer account?

You can register a profile in Brezel as a customer. A registration is only possible if you already have a policy. Once your policy is issued, you will receive an email containing a registration link. Click on the link, create a secure password, and complete the registration process.
Another way to register is directly through our website. Visit brezel.de, click the orange button "My Account" in the main menu and provide the needed information. Once registered, you will have full access to your policy and documents. You can manage your payment methods, payment frequency, create mid-term adjustment to existing contracts and get new ones, as well as submit claim notifications in your profile.
What can I do in my customer account?

Your online profile is organized into several tabs, providing easy access to all relevant information and functionalities:
  • Policies: You can see all policies you have in Brezel. For each policy, you can view coverage details, insured amounts, information about the insured pets and policyholder, premium amounts and payment methods.
    • To change your payment method use the bank card icon button in the top right corner of the screen.
    • The pencil icon next to it allows you to make policy adjustments, such as updating coverage, insured amounts, payment frequency and policy details.
    • Use "Go to payments and documents" to see:
      • your payment schedule with an option to pay selected future installments
      • all documents related to your policy
  • Claims: In the claims tab you can file online claim notifications and track the status of all claims submitted from your account, as well as get notifications about requested information from the claim adjusters.
Can I change the policyholder in an existing policy?

Yes, you can. Log in, go to the Tab Policies, click the pencil icon, and make a mid-term adjustment.

Termination & Revocation

How can I cancel my insurance?

You can cancel your policy in your profile. Log in, go to the tab Policies, and select the icon 'Contract cancellation'. Please note that during the first year you can cancel your policy with one-month notice period to the end date of the contract. From the second year on, you can cancel at any time with a one-month notice.
What happens if I cancel during the year?

From the second year on, you can cancel at any time during the year with a one-month notice. In case there is a paid premium for a future period, it is going to be automatically refunded to you pro rata.
What happens with the policy if my pet dies?

We are very sorry for your loss! Please provide an official document and your policy will be terminated. Paid premium for a future period will of course be refunded to you pro rata.

Payment

What payment options does Brezel offer?

Brezel accepts payments via Visa, Mastercard, SEPA Direct Debit, and bank transfer. To change your payment method, log in to your online profile and open the Policies tab. You will see a bank card icon in the top right corner of the screen. Click on this icon to access your policy payment settings. From there, you can select a new payment method. After making the desired changes, confirm them by selecting the Save button at the bottom of the screen. Please note that the changes are valid from your next installment.
Can I change the payment frequency in a contract?

Yes, you can. Log in, go to the Policies tab, select the contract to which you want to make changes, and click the pencil icon to edit it. Make the desired change in the payment frequency and select 'Issue contract adjustment'. The system will change your payment plan accordingly.
